On June 3, 2016, Culver Community Schools graduated 63 seniors. Congratulations to those young people and best of luck to all of them as they move forward. Important to note is that of those 63 graduating seniors, 41 of them received some sort of scholarship support. Total scholarship dollars awarded to our seniors this year was $105,899. In addition to that, 23 seniors were also considered 21st Century Scholar recipients. Those 23 students could potentially receive well over $200,000 in scholarship support. I would also like to report that current college students, who previously graduated from Culver Community High School, also received over $32,000 in renewal scholarship money. So, as you can see, if your student attends Culver Community High School, works hard, is successful and wants to pursue a post-secondary education, there is a good chance they will receive some sort of scholarship support upon graduation from Culver Community Schools.

I would like to share with you a new program that is happening throughout the schools in Marshall County. It is called Marshall County Promise, which is part of Promise Indiana. All schools in Marshall County are encouraging students to be all that they can be. When you enroll a student in kindergarten or first grade this year, we will give you the opportunity to enroll in a College Choice 529 plan. Through the generous partnership with the Marshall County Community Foundation, we will deposit $25.00 into that account for you. Then as time goes on additional opportunities will be made available for students to get additional money deposited into that account. Money in that account can then be used for college expenses. What a great way for a young student to begin dreaming about a college education, whether that is a 4-year traditional college or a vocational college.

Culver Community High School and Culver Community Middle School have officially been combined into Culver Community Middle/High School. From a student perspective, the change will not seem like much. Middle school students will still spend most of their day at the middle school end of the building. Due to the reduction in administration, running two separate buildings has become very difficult. This change will allow the Culver Community Middle/High School administration to work out of one office and not have to duplicate many of the functions required of two separate buildings. All administrative functions will now be run from the high school offices. More information about this will be coming out throughout the summer.

Personnel changes have begun to happen. We wish Mr. Luke Biernacki the best as he transitions to Rochester Schools to become the principal of Riddle Elementary. Mrs. Julie Berndt will be taking over the duties as the middle/high school assistant principal.

We had several retiring staff members this year. We said goodbye to Mrs. Sheldon and Mrs. Arquette as they venture into retirement. We also said goodbye to two very important staff members who support the students of this corporation. Mrs. Sandy Master, from the guidance department, as well as Mrs. Doris Smith, a long time aide at Culver Elementary, will both be leaving us. All of these people will be missed.
